Responding to the news that Labour’s Disused Mine and Quarry Tips (Wales) Bill is being introduced into the Senedd this week, Joel James MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Social Partnership Minister, said:
The recent storms have served as a reminder of how vulnerable communities across Wales are from slippage of coal tips.
We face numerous challenges in making them safe, not only from the weather but from scrambler bikes and 4x4 off-road vehicles that use the tips as a playground ripping up the surface and destabilising them.
The Welsh Conservatives welcome the Disused Mine and Quarry Tips (Wales) Bill that is being introduced this week and will be looking to ensure that more is done to stop damage from scramblers and 4x4 offroad vehicles, communities are involved in the decision-making process of making safe coal tips and that biodiversity is protected.
