Senedd Member Joel James MS visited an art exhibition today in the Senedd Oriel, created by Crisis, the national charity for individuals experiencing homelessness.
The exhibit, titled "Home: The Key to Hope," was developed by people who have lived through homelessness and have received support at the Crisis South Wales Skylight. This thought-provoking exhibition features a diverse array of art forms, including photography, Gelli printing, crafting, and creative writing.
It encourages viewers to reflect on the various pressures that can lead to homelessness, as well as the barriers faced by those without a secure home.
One of the highlights of the exhibit is a game of snakes and ladders, which predominantly features snakes. This symbolises how navigating the support systems can often feel overwhelming when experiencing homelessness.
In contrast, organisations like Crisis help provide the "ladders" that unlock solutions and enable individuals to build a life beyond homelessness.
Speaking about the exhibit, Joel said:
It was great to meet with Jasmine this week from Crisis, to walk through their exhibit in the Senedd Oriel.
Titled- Home: The Key to Hope, the exhibition created by members of Crisis Skylight South Wales, emphasises that for people experiencing homelessness, the prospect of having a place to call home is often the key to hope.
The exhibit also featured a game of snakes and ladders titled “This is Not a Game”, illustrating some of the pressures that can push people into homelessness as well as some of the barriers people experiencing homelessness may face.
