South Wales Central Senedd Member, Joel James MS has today met with USDAW Union during their Welsh Parliament drop-in session to discuss their latest campaign.
The campaign, Freedom From Fear, seeks to prevent violence, threats and abuse against workers, highlighting the increased concerns for shop workers in the lead-up to the festive season.
With Respect for Shopworkers Week taking place from the 11th-17th of November, USDAW Union are asking the public to stand up against unacceptable behaviour and give workers the confidence to speak out, report abuse and not accept it as part of the job.
Speaking after the meeting, Joel said:
It was great to meet with Usdaw Union representatives today in the Welsh Parliament to learn more about their Respect for Shop Workers and Freedom From Fear campaign.
Sadly, in the lead-up to Christmas, the retail industry often faces difficult situations, which frequently lead to verbal and physical abuse when dealing with members of the public.
No one should feel afraid to go to work, please respect our shop workers this Christmas.
