This week, Joel James MS, has visited Merthyr Valleys Homes- Wales’ first tenant and employee mutual housing association, which owns and manages homes across the borough.
The housing association is currently trialling a four day working week which is something Joel and the Welsh Conservatives have been against for a number of reasons including that it may create a two-tier society, where only some workers in the public sector can benefit from it, and the potential for it to create burnout of the workforce.
Speaking after the meeting, Joel said:
It was great to meet with Merthyr Valleys Homes who are currently trialling the 4-day working week, which the Welsh Government is considering piloting. I was grateful to discuss their thoughts on the trial and the pros and cons that they have experienced so far.
The Welsh Conservatives have raised several concerns regarding possible negative impacts that the four-day working week would have- notably that it cannot be rolled out across all public and private sectors, however, I’m keen to know everyone’s thoughts on this pilot and whether you believe it could be implemented successfully.
