Joel James MS was pleased to meet with Maggie’s Cardiff at the Welsh Business Show last month and discuss how the charity supports cancer patients and their families when they need it most.
Maggie’s Cardiff is a cancer support charity based at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff which offers a warm, informal, supportive, and welcoming space for patients and their families. The charity aims to help patients truly understand their recent diagnosis and empower them to take back control of their own lives. Receiving a cancer diagnosis is incredibly worrying and can be a life-changing event and Maggie’s aims to support and help people on this journey.
During his discussion with workers from Maggie’s, Joel learnt that the charity offers support specialists, Psychologists and Benefits Advisors free of charge to anyone who walks through their doors. The representatives of Maggie’s Cardiff were keen to express to Joel how the charity provides one-to-one support as well as different support groups and activities.
“It was great to meet with Maggie’s Cardiff and hear all about the fantastic work that they do to support patients and families at Velindre Cancer Centre.
Charities such as Maggie’s are a lifeline to many patients and families in South Wales and their work should not go unrecognised. The fact that 96% of those involved with Maggie’s feel less alone and an amazing 98% feel more confident talking about their diagnosis is a testament to their hard work. I want to thank them for everything they do, and I am hopeful to meet with them again soon.”
