Joel was shocked after receiving a complaint from a resident regarding St. Monica’s Church-In-Wales Primary School, Cardiff and was appalled to see the condition of the school. Damp and black mould accompanied crumbling walls and substantial evidence of water near electrical points.
Shockingly, the school has also been covered in scaffolding for nearly four years, with no work being undertaken. This is taking up large amounts of the playground, and blocking natural light for the classrooms. Joel strongly believes that this is will have an impact on the mental and physical well-being of students and teachers and can impact the quality of teaching and learning.
After seeing these appalling conditions, Joel contacted Cardiff Council to complain, but, worryingly, he fears there are other schools in a similar position in Cardiff.
Commenting on this issue, Joel said:
Children in our schools deserve better than the conditions I have seen some schools in.
