Joel James MS, representing South Wales Central has met with the Motor Neurone Disease Association at their drop-in session at the Welsh Parliament.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. MND leaves people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe.
During the last few years there has been an increased awareness of the need to expand access to MND research for people living with MND in Wales. However, while there has been laboratory research there has been limited access to clinical trials.
Speaking after the session, Joel James MS said:
It was a pleasure to meet with Adrian and the MND Association team at the Welsh Parliament recently, to discuss motor neurone disease (MND)- a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. Sadly, six people a day die from MND in the UK and currently, there is no cure. I’m thankful that a recent surge in research studies and clinical trials around the world has given renewed hope for the search for effective treatments and ultimately a cure for MND, as well as potential benefits for other neurodegenerative diseases.
