Joel James MS, Senedd Member for South Wales Central has today questioned the First Minister, Eluned Morgan MS on Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council's revised local development plan 2022-2037.
The Member highlighted that RCT council has recently published its formal response to the consultation submissions it received about its proposed LDP strategy plan, and he was happy to see that the council has responded positively to Welsh Government observations regarding one of its strategic sites and has completely removed it.
However, the Member stated it is "disconcerting" to see that the council is still considering residential development on the Ystrad Barwig site in Llantwit Fardre.
The site has continually been refused by this Welsh Government due to it being classified as a C2 flood zone, the worst classification there is, yet the development plan has not changed.
Speaking after his contribution, Joel said:
The devastating weather over the weekend has shown, yet again, what can happen if houses are built at Ystrad Barwig Farm - with the land being completely under water.
Today, I challenged the Welsh Government again on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's insane plans to keep this site within it's Local Development Plan - despite it being continually refused in the past.
I will continue to oppose this development and support the residents as much as I can.
