Joel James MS, Senedd Member for South Wales Central has today marked Time To Talk Day, which in Wales is run by Time to Change Wales, Adferiad and Mind Cymru, and in partnership with the Co-op.
Time to Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. It happens every year, and it’s a day for friends, families, communities and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives.
The goal is for everyone to feel comfortable talking about mental health. Last year’s Time to Talk Day campaign revealed that nearly two-thirds of the UK public put on a brave face to avoid talking about their mental health and nearly half of us are less likely to open up as we don’t want to worry others in already difficult times. But talking openly and honestly can be the first step towards better mental health for everyone. It can reduce stigma and help people feel comfortable enough to seek help.
There are lots of ways to get involved, from sharing on social media using #TimeToTalk and having conversations with your friends and family, to raising awareness locally.
Speaking about the day, Joel said:
Today is #TimetoTalk Day. 1 in 4 people face challenges with their mental health, and talking openly can be the first step towards helping everyone improve their well-being.
