Joel James MS, Senedd Member for South Wales Central has today spoken in the Chamber to raise his disappointment on the decision to expand the quarry in Glyncoch.
The Member detailed that he has spent quite a lot of time speaking with residents and raising this issue with the council and the Cabinet Secretary.
Joel also shared that he really feels for the residents living in the village as they've not only lost access to much-used and cherished land, but their houses are being damaged, and the Member stated he can't imagine what residents must be breathing in.
The Member also highlighted that blast times are not being correctly advertised, giving no prior warning to the community.
Joel closed his contribution by stating: "Time and time again we stand in this Chamber fighting for residents because their voice is just not being heard by local authorities or by the Welsh Government. And the sad truth is the people of Glyncoch are being failed by this establishment and by devolution. It's not given them the voice that they were promised".
Speaking outside the Chamber, Joel said:
I was grateful to take part in the Welsh Parliament short debate today on Craig yr Hesg Quarry. The decision to expand the quarry in Glyncoch is extremely disappointing and I share the concerns of Guardians of Glyncoch.
The lack of communication for residents regarding blast times and support with aftershocks is unacceptable and I wholeheartedly share resident concerns about their health as a result. Glyncoch residents have been let down by the Welsh Government and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council - their voices are being ignored.
