The Labour Party's decision to scrap winter fuel payments for struggling pensioners is not just short-sighted, but utterly callous. This move stands to affect over 100,000 people in my region of South Wales Central alone and 400,000 homes across Wales.
With fuel prices expected to surge by 10% this month, many older people may be forced to cut back on essentials and face the extremely difficult choice between heating and eating.
I've led a Welsh Conservatives debate on this decision and questioned the Welsh Government during Spokesperson's Questions, yet:
- Not a single Welsh Labour MP voted to scrap this policy.
- Not one Welsh Labour Senedd Member voted to call on the UK Labour Government to save winter fuel payments.
I am genuinely worried about the impact this decision will have on pensioners in our communities. If you are struggling or are concerned about paying your fuel bills this winter, please do complete the form below and my team will be in touch.
